Ministry to Youth

Young people today need a place to nurture their faith in God alongside other believing youth; they need a safe, caring place to belong; and they need the freedom to explore who they might become as they grow into God's person.  We provide such a place at the Presbyterian Church of LaPorte.

Our programs for young people offer a fun, caring atmosphere where kids are encouraged to try new things and learn new skills.  Young people are invited to meet God in a variety of settings; to ask all their questions; and to deepen faith in conversation with their peers and with committed Christian adults.

Here are come of the programs we offer our young people so they can believe, belong and become:

Youth Groups

Our combined Youth Groups for High School and Middle School youth's normally meets Sundays right after worship.  The mixed ages of our youth provide great opportunitities for our younger youth to be mentored by the "olders" while the older youth get opportunities to learn leadership.  The young people meet for a cooked lunch and then engage in a variety of activities.  Sometimes they explore faith questions.  Sometimes go engage in service work in our community, like raking leaves for the elderly, or gathering gifts for the local food pantry.  Oh...and sometime they just have fun:  sleepovers, crazy games, trips to the movies, or corn maze or sledding hill, etc. Click here for the Monthly Youth Schedule.

In addition, our youth participate in lots of large gathering programs.  In 2010 young people at the church participated winter retreat, camp Geneva Presbyterian Summer Camps, Youth Trienium (a gathering of 5000 youth at Purdue University) and the annual summer mission trip.  We rejoice in the way these events sharpen and stregthen our kids' faith.

Youth Mission Trip

July 17 - 22, 2011

It's been quite an adventure full of new sights and sounds. We definitely learned a great deal about the compassionate care given at Camp Courageous. The staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to give the campers a true Summer Camp experience with no limits. Despite the staff working to the point of exhaustion, we witnessed the dedication, patience and love given to those campers each and everyday. We learned what a disciple of Christ does during the Summer months...they give selflessly of themselves to the campers of Camp Courageous. May God bless them and this year's PCL Youth Group Mission Volunteers and Leaders! Thank you for learning along side of me and being open to God's message on our heartsClick here for more pictures and daily blogs.
