Winter Sermon Series: Secrets and Clues

One of the interesting themes in Mark’s Gospel is what scholars refer to as the “Messianic Secret.” Mark remembers that Jesus was a bit secretive about his identity, as least in the early days of his ministry. Certainly part of the reason for this was that the longer Jesus’ ministry went on, the larger the crowds grew. This began to attract the attention of the authorities and so, on occasion Jesus would disappeared for a while or travel outside Jewish boundaries into Samaritan or Gentile lands.

The series of sermons we will embark on beginning January 7th explores early clues to Jesus’ identity and the effect of his growing popularity. Here’s a list of sermon titles for January:

Jan 7 “Secrets and Clues: Identity Revealed”

Jan 14 “Secrets and Clues: Now You See it, Now you Don’t”

Jan 21 “Secrets and Clues: Urgent Mission

Jan 28 “Secrets and Clues: Going Viral”
